Easy Cheesy Egg In A Frame

Easy Egg In A Frame

This easy breakfast recipe has been upgraded with an addition of cheddar cheese.

Jump To Recipe

This recipe is a variation of one I learned from the Betty Crocker Kids Cookbook when I was eight years old.  It was one of the first recipes I learned to make.  I have upgraded it by adding cheddar cheese.

I like using sour dough bread.  I tear out the center and cook the center along with the frame.  Heat the butter in a small skillet or large skillet if you are making more than one.  Add the bread to the skillet.

When the butter is bubbling add the egg into the center of the bread.  I like to pop my yolk, but you can try to preserve the yolk, especially if you like a runny egg.  Once the bread has browned, carefully turn it and lower the heat to medium low.  Salt and pepper to taste.  Now carefully sprinkle your cheddar cheese on top.  Another variation is to add crumbled bacon on top of the cheese.  Continue to heat the bread egg until the cheese is melted and the bottom is browned.  Enjoy!

Easy Cheesy Egg In A Frame

1 slice of bread
2 tsp. butter
1 egg
1/8 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
Salt and Pepper to taste

In a small skillet melt the butter over medium high heat. Tear a circle out of the center of the bread and place the bread in the skillet. Pour the egg into the center of the bread and cook for 1 minute or until slightly browned. Flip egg and bread. Lower heat to medium low. Salt and pepper to taste. Carefully add the cheddar cheese to the top and cook until the cheese has melted.
