First, I’m going to season the flour with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. In another bowl I am whisking 2 eggs with 1/2 cup of milk. Then, I’m going to dredge the steak in the flour. Now, I’m going to dip the steak in the egg mixture. And finally, I’m going to dredge it in a mixture of flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Now, it’s time to fry the steak.
Once the oil is hot, I’m going to add the steak and cook it for about 3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Set the steak aside in a warm place.
To make the milk gravy, I’m going to add some flour to our skillet drippings and whisk it together until it forms a paste. Now, I’m going to slowly whisk in some milk.
And that’s it! The milk gravy is done. I like to serve my chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and creamed corn. Enjoy!

Heavenly Southern Comfort Food | Chicken Fried Steak and Creamy Milk Gravy
Servings: 4 to 6
1 ½ lb. cube steaks
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 eggs, beaten
2 cups milk
½ cup grapeseed oil or other cooking oil
1 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. garlic powder
¼ tsp. cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
First, we’ll need to season the cube steaks. In a shallow dish, combine the flour, salt, pepper and garlic powder. Dredge the cube steaks in the flour mixture, coating them evenly. Next, we’ll need to prepare the egg wash. In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
Dip the cube steaks in the egg wash, then coat them again in the flour mixture.
Now it’s time to fry the steaks. Heat the oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the butter is melted, add the cube steaks and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. While the steaks are cooling, we can make the gravy. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and salt and pepper. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Slowly whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens.
Serve the chicken fried steaks with the gravy and your favorite sides.
