Brussel sprouts and bacon are a very quick and easy side dish. They are also healthy and tasty.
Brussel sprouts are a great side dish for any meal, but I often think of them as required at Thanksgiving. The preparation is so easy and is a stove top dish so it is not competing for oven space.
I always rinse my sprouts in vinegar water and then pull off the bad leaves. Next cut off the bottom of the stem. Be careful to leave some stem which helps hold the leaves in place. Now cut the sprouts in half.
Use a large skillet so the sprouts can spread out in one layer. Heat the skillet to medium high and cook the bacon until it is crispy brown. Remove the bacon to a paper towel for draining and later use.
Add the sprouts to the skillet and reduce the heat to medium. If the sprouts start overly browning, reduce the heat so they can continue to cook until tender. This will take about 8 to 10 minutes depending on the size of your Brussel sprouts. Once the sprouts are tender add the syrup, salt, pepper and the bacon pieces. Stir until all is well heated. Serve the sprouts while warm.
